Serum Separation for Veterinary Diagnostic Testing

Serum separator tubes add another step to specimen preparation by helping separate serum from cellular components following centrifugation. The BD Vacutainer® SST Gold Tube allows learners to connect blood collection with the preparation of serum samples used across veterinary diagnostic testing.

Training can cover selecting the appropriate tube, obtaining the specimen, allowing adequate clot formation, centrifugation, and evaluating the separated serum before testing or transfer. Comparing SST tubes with plain serum, plasma, citrate, and EDTA tubes also reinforces how collection tube selection changes the resulting specimen and laboratory workflow.
