A Clotting Mechanism That Doesn't Depend on the Patient's Own Clotting

Standard gauze relies entirely on the patient's own clotting cascade to eventually stop a bleed, which is a problem when that cascade is already compromised by significant blood loss or a patient running cold. Chitosan-based hemostatic gauze works differently, promoting clot formation through a separate mechanism that functions even when normal clotting is impaired. The Z-fold format is built for direct wound packing under pressure, holding pack together as pressure is applied rather than unspooling loosely the way a standard roll would.
