Demo Dose Veterinary Simulated Medications: Building a Safer Medication Training Lab
September 9, 2026
A strong veterinary medication lab is not a shelf full of simulated drugs. Students need to practice the workflow around medication administration – reading labels, calculating dose-to-volume conversions, selecting equipment, preparing medications, documenting administration, and disposing of sharps safely.
Concentration Matters in Simulation
Students should verify the concentration on the vial rather than memorize a volume ratio. A simulated medication can intentionally create a calculation scenario where the learner has to use the label and the simulated order to determine the correct volume.
Build the Formulary Around the Curriculum
A core medication lab can combine simulated medications with syringes, needles, injection trainers, venipuncture trainers, IV fluids and tubing, storage, sharps containers, and scenario-based assessment. Advanced stations can add emergency or anesthesia scenarios based on the program’s current veterinary protocols.
Keep Veterinary Simulated Medications Clearly Separated
Demo Dose products are for simulation only and are not for human or animal use. Keep simulated medications physically separated from clinical inventory, clearly labeled, secured, and reconciled according to the simulation program’s policy.
Practice the whole medication workflow
Use Demo Dose simulated medications alongside syringes and needles and injection trainers so students practice preparation and administration as connected skills.
