Dry gauze can bond to a healing wound bed as exudate dries, turning a routine dressing change into a small re-injury every time. The petrolatum blend in this gauze keeps the mesh from adhering to the wound surface, so removal doesn't disturb new tissue the way a plain dressing can. It's a common choice for burns, abrasions, skin grafts, and fresh surgical incisions specifically because of that non-adherent quality, and the bismuth tribromophenate component adds a bacteriostatic effect on top of the physical barrier.
