Two Patients, One Bag, and a Longer Gap to Veterinary Care

Most trauma kits assume a human patient. This one assumes two — a handler has to be ready to treat either themselves or their dog with what's in the same bag, which is why so many components here are deliberately dual-purpose. The canine-specific pieces cover situations a general kit wouldn't anticipate: a K9-sized tourniquet for extremity hemorrhage, a muzzle for safely handling a dog that's frightened or in pain, an endotracheal tube for airway management, and 14GA decompression needles included specifically for gastric torsion and bloat — a genuinely life-threatening emergency unique to dogs. None of this replaces veterinary treatment; it's built to keep a working dog stable during the stretch between a field injury and reaching a veterinarian, which for police and military K9 teams can run considerably longer than it would for a household pet. The tourniquet included here is also sold separately for handlers who just need a spare.
